“Landscape photography is the supreme test of the photographer – and often the supreme disappointment. … … Ansel Adams
When I first got back into photography in 2015, I was mostly taking landscape photos. It was a great reason to get out and explore the network of public hiking trails that criss-cross the hills to the north of the small town in Durham Region where I was living at the time. The experience was a good example of photographing what you have at hand. Nothing about the district offered grand, sweeping, or dramatic vistas. However, it was a pleasant enough landscape filled with rolling green fields and a mixture of farms, small towns, and public forests. As I gained experience and a little confidence, I broadened my subjects from rocks, trees, and water to include flowers and animals. Eventually, I even broadened my horizons beyond those of Durham Region.
So that’s what this is all about; a collection of some of my favourite landscape and other outdoor related photos. I hope you aren’t supremely disappointed.
